Drone survey FAQs

This page brings together the most common drone survey FAQs we hear from homeowners, property professionals, construction teams, insurers, and facilities managers across Kent and the South East.

If you are considering a drone survey for the first time, it is normal to have questions about cost, safety, privacy, and what you will receive.

Drone survey FAQs: booking, timing, and what to expect

How long does a drone survey take?

Most site visits are completed within 30 to 90 minutes, depending on site size, complexity, and what needs to be captured.

For larger commercial sites or multi-building estates, surveys may take longer. We will confirm the expected duration when we quote.

What is your lead time for booking?

Lead time depends on demand and weather, but we aim to offer appointments quickly.

If you have an urgent requirement, such as storm damage documentation or a time-sensitive property decision, tell us and we will advise on the fastest available slot.

Can you survey in bad weather?

Drone surveys are weather dependent. High winds, heavy rain, and poor visibility can make flying unsafe or reduce image quality.

If the weather is not suitable, we will reschedule. We would rather delay than provide low-quality evidence or compromise safety.

Drone survey FAQs: safety, compliance, and permissions

Is drone surveying safe?

Yes, when managed professionally. We plan every flight with safety in mind, including site constraints, people nearby, take-off and landing points, and safe flight paths.

Do I need special permission for a drone survey?

In most cases, clients do not need to do anything beyond granting site access.

If permissions are needed for a specific location or site type, we will advise and manage the process.

What is PDRA01 and why does it matter?

PDRA01 is an operational authorisation that can enable drone operations in certain restricted environments where other operators may be limited.

It can be particularly valuable in parts of the South East where controlled airspace can otherwise cause delays.

Drone survey FAQs: privacy and neighbouring properties

What about privacy?

We focus on the site or building being surveyed and capture the imagery needed for your inspection.

If your property is close to neighbours, we plan the flight to minimise unnecessary capture and disruption.

How noisy are survey drones?

Most surveys are short. Noise levels vary by equipment and conditions, but we aim to keep the work efficient and unobtrusive.

Drone survey FAQs: cost, value, and deliverables

How much does a drone survey cost?

Costs vary by site size, complexity, deliverables, and travel. Many residential inspections start from £180, but we always quote based on your specific needs.

Why choose a drone survey over traditional methods?

Drone surveys can be faster, safer, and more cost-effective than scaffolding or access equipment for many inspection tasks.

They also provide clear visual evidence that can be shared with contractors, surveyors, insurers, and stakeholders.

What will I receive?

Deliverables depend on the job, but typically include:

  • a curated set of high-resolution images
  • optional video clips where useful
  • digital delivery for easy download and sharing

If you need a formal report, tell us what it is for and we will advise on the best format.
